July 11th, 2010 Shakespeare from the perspective of an actress. Local actress, Ginny Wolf, will share her insights gleaned from Nina Pinchin’s Shakespeare classes at the Hartford Stage Co. Open Mike to follow.

July 18th, 2010 AS YOU LIKE IT will be presented by Shakespeare scholar, actor and teacher, Ted Guhl. Ted has a BA in English and Drama, an MFA in acting and an MALS in Literature and Fine Arts from Wesleyan University Open Mike to follow.

August 1st , 2010 Judith K. Ivie, author of a series of murder mysteries and owner of Mainly Murder Press will discuss the essential ingredients for mystery writing. Open Mic to follow.

August 8th, 2010 Barbara Sicherman, will present her new book. WELL READ LIVES: How Books Inspired a Generation of American Women, which speaks to the importance of books that inspire creativity in the reader. Open Mic to follow.

August 15th, 2010 David Owen, author and photographer, will present his new book, LIKE NO OTHER PLACE, which beautifully demonstrates the importance of PLACE in writing. Open Mic to follow.

August 22nd, 2010 Pegi Deitz Shea, children and YA award-winning author, will present How to Write for Children and Teens and present her new YA book, ABE IN ARMS. .Open Mic.

August 29th, 2010 David K. Leff, published author of 3 non-fiction and poetry books, will speak to what makes non-fiction books interesting as well as literary styles. Open Mic to follow.

MANUSCRIPT  READING AND  ASSESSMENT SERVICE  
sponsored by the Farmington River Literary Arts Center
Offering personal and competent reading of unpublished manuscripts that will assist the writer in story and character development as well as overall structure and descriptive language.
Fees: Based on length and genre:

  • Short story-approx. ten pages--$50.00
  • One page poem---------------------$25.00
  • One-act play-approx. 15 pages--$70.00

Instructor:  Ted Guhl carries degrees from CCSU, American Academy of Dramatic Arts and Wesleyan; has taught English for 35 years and published poetry, fiction and drama.
